Welcome to the Solar Fund Homepage The Cornell Fund opened the Solar Fund in 2004 to help the University install photovoltaic (solar electric) systems on buildings around campus! The account was opened with enough seed money to support a modest project, but with your help we could see solar panels glinting in the sunlight all across campus. Please consult the information provided on this webpage and then consider making a donation. * * * * UPDATE January 20, 2007: GREAT NEWS! Thanks to the support of many alumni, students, friends, parents, faculty, and staff the Day Hall Solar Project is up and running and more projects are on their way! Please see the Where Does the Fund Go link for details on individual projects. Read the article from the Cornell Chronicle about the Day Hall project here: http://www.news.cornell.edu/stories/Dec06/DayHallSolar.ws.html . The panels are operating well, and the online monitoring software should be installed soon. There will be a public ribbon cutting for the Day Hall solar panels on February 12 from 1:15-1:45 in the Willard Straight Hall Memorial Room. The ribbon cutting will be honoring Dick Aubrecht for his generous donation of the panels; Abby Krich, her family, and friends of the Krich Solar Fund for their support; and all the people in Facilities Services who helped get these panels installed. This public ribboncutting ceremony will be part of this semester's Sustainability Summit, the full agenda of which will be linked here in a few days and will be open to the public. We hope you can join us in celebrating the first major solar panel installation at Cornell. Thank you to everyone who has given of their time, made a donation, or expressed support for these projects. More information will be posted here as it is available. |
